A simple meditation exercise to get you started

Here's a simple meditation exercise to get you started:

Finding Your Breath

1. Find a quiet space: Sit comfortably with your back straight, feet planted firmly on the ground, and hands placed gently on your lap.

2. Close your eyes: Allow your eyelids to relax, feeling the weight of your gaze release.

3. Focus on your breath: Bring your attention to the sensation of the air moving in and out of your nostrils. Try to focus on the sensation of each breath without getting caught up in thoughts.

Body Scan

1. Notice your body: Starting from your toes, bring awareness to each part of your body, slowly scanning up to the top of your head.

2. Release tension: As you focus on each area, release any tension or discomfort. Allow your body to relax and feel heavy, grounded to the earth.

Loving-Kindness

1. Direct kindness: Silently repeat phrases of kindness to yourself, such as "May I be happy, may I be healthy, may I be at peace."

2. Expand your circle: Gradually include others in your circle of kindness, starting with those you feel affection for, then moving to those you may have difficulty with, and finally, to all beings.

Conclusion

1. Take a moment: When you're ready, slowly open your eyes, and take a deep breath in, noticing how you feel before getting back to your day.

Note

Remember, the goal of meditation isn't to stop your thoughts completely, but to learn to observe them without getting caught up. With regular practice, you can cultivate greater calm, clarity, and kindness in your daily life.
